Katherine Miller
This is not the future we were promised,
We were painted a picture of peace and love,
That prediction was wildly dishonest.
The war of which we are the fondest,
Creating the drama to fuel life and destroy boredom,
This is not the future we were promised.
This is not what history insisted,
We made so many mistakes, you think we would have learned?
Our terrors now are self inflicted.
This is not on what we had counted.
We said jetpacks, but cars still destroy the planet,
This is not the future we were promised.
I would like to think that my ideas can be reused,
I want to know that one day, we will be content.
The great minds until then are being abused.
This poem is actually based off of a song called The Future by Spiraling. I started off by trying to write a challenge option but I had begun with a word that had very few rhyming options so I ended up stopping the poem and revising it to a version that I find much more enjoyable.
